Growing in Faith

>> Thursday, January 28, 2016

I called Walker's Seminary teacher to let him know he wasn't going to be in school. He needed a "personal day". He'd stayed up until 2am two nights in a row doing homework and he was just exhausted. He rarely misses school and we all need a little personal time now and then, so I let him stay home.

When I was talking to Bro. Miles he was happy to hear from me. I think it must be a pre-requisite as a Seminary teacher to be super chipper all the time..LOL!

He said he loves having Walker in his class and he thinks he's just a really great guy!!! I can't tell you how that melts my heart as a mom. I of course love my kids beyond measure but hearing it from teachers or anyone who interacts with my children on a regular basis say they feel the same way is priceless! :)

He then went on to share a story with me that had just occurred the day before in class:

He said each of the kids take turns doing a devotional. They usually choose a scripture and sort of regurgitate what it says and sit down.

Bro. Miles said it was Walker's turn that day and when he went up he started out by saying he didn't have a scripture but that he wanted to bear his testimony instead. (This blew his teacher away. He could tell Walker was a little nervous about doing this...Walker never gets nervous to speak....) He bore his testimony about how in the scriptures it talks a lot about having faith and believing in Heavenly Father. He said he is really trying to apply this in his life right now. He doesn't often feel the Holy Ghost in his life. He has on occasion but not as much as he'd like. He went on to say that even though he doesn't always feel the Spirit or have ground shaking experiences where he's on fire with the Spirit, he continues to put his trust and faith in Jesus and Heavenly Father. He knows they are there and he wants to feel them close so he's not giving up on doing the things he knows will bring those opportunities to him.

Bro. Miles then said Walker probably didn't even notice but the room was silent and the kids were riveted and hanging on to every word. He said it meant so much to him as the teacher to have him share a 'real' experience and how he is handling it.

I am so proud of that boy! What a brave and courageous thing to share. I know even though he may not think the Spirit is with him, it is clear from this experience he is!

The class was moved by the Spirit and Walker's testimony...he was the conduit for the Lord to touch those students hearts that day. I'm sure many of those kids have or have had the same feelings as him. They are all finding their way and growing in their relationship with their Lord and Savior.

High School is a time when you are figuring out so much about yourself and the world around you. I'm so grateful that Walker has made the decision to learn more about his Heavenly Father and how He speaks to him. It's a beautiful thing! These are the relationships that matter most....for eternity even....My heart is full!!!

Salon de la Kitch

>> Sunday, January 24, 2016

Sundays seem to be turning into beauty days around here. :P

Alayna and I got a home gel manicure set from Santa and we've been dying to try it out. After church we busted it out and gave it a whirl!

It turned out great. I wasn't sure how good of a job it would do but it looks fantastic! :D It's a one step paint which makes it even easier!

I'm sure there will be many more manicures ahead! :D

George of the Jungle!!

>> Saturday, January 23, 2016

Do you remember that cartoon from when we were kids called "George of the Jungle"?

It was sort of like Tarzan but he was really clumsy and in the theme song goes, "George, George, George of the jungle, watch out for that.....treeeee!!!!"

Well Eli went on his first snow camp out and had pretty much the time of his life! There has been SO much snow this year! We got him all the gear to make sure he stayed dry and warm...cuz if you aren't dry you won't be warm. I was going over checklists making sure he had everything to make sure he'd be taken care of. You know, being "Mom" and probably driving him nuts! LOL!!

As I was dropping him off at the church with his troop I had an impression to tell him "to keep his head on straight...have fun but don't be too crazy".

As most boys his age do he said, "sure mom..ok." In one ear out the other....LOL!

I went to pick him up the next day and this is what he looked like!!!!! Have mercy!

As soon as he came up to the car and I saw his face I asked what happened????? He said he was sledding down a hill and he hit a tree with his FACE!!! (Insert theme song here!! Hahaha!!! Maybe we should start calling him George? :P )

So many things went through my head on how this could have been so much worse!

He said he did blackout for a second...and some of the other boys said he looked dazed. He got up pretty quick though and he didn't need any we are counting our blessing on this one!

When he got in the car his leader Bro. B said he had a pic from right after it happened so he sent it to me. I was telling him how I warned Eli to be safe before he left, and then Eli said, "I think you were prompted mom. There were a whole lot of other things I wanted to do but I remembered what you said so I didn't do them."

Whew!!!! Well...I guess "some" of the things Mom says doesn't just whistle between his ears!!! LOL!!!

Mommy Daughter Makeovers!

>> Monday, January 18, 2016

Yesterday after church Alayna asked if we could do makeovers.... How can a mom say no to that sweet face?

I know I couldn't so we got right to work! She gave me about 4 different looks. This was the only one I thought to take a picture of unfortunately. I had some pretty sweet color pallets happening too. You really missed out! :P

Don't you love the hair? Love it!!!

By the way please ignore my crazy cluttered bathroom! LOL!

Look at those lashes!!! Every girls dream! Watch out Jared....those boys are going to be beating our door down! :P

We played for a few hours trying different styles, colors and tools to see what it would look like.  It was so much fun! We will definitely be doing this again soon!

Thanks for the makeover Alayna!

Elder Jeffrey R. Holland

>> Sunday, January 17, 2016

A once in a lifetime opportunity came to the youth in our Stake...and 9 other Stakes in our area. An Apostle of the Lord, Jeffrey R. Holland, came to our Stake Center, the Gilbert Greenfield Stake and spoke to the Young Men and Young Women ages 12-18 on Saturday!

Not only is he an Apostle...he's one of our FAVORITE Apostles! <3

As leaders we tried to impress upon the youth how important this was and to prayerfully attend with questions they may want answered, seeking inspiration, and being in tune with the Spirit so they could receive any personal revelation that the Lord may have in store for them as they listen to the words of one of His Apostles.

Walker and Eli were both able to attend and I'm so thankful they were able to have this experience! I have to admit I'm a little jealous! LOL! What an opportunity!

The youth were asked to arrive early and to leave all electronics at home. While they waited they could read "paper" scriptures ( how old school! :P) or church magazines. They were also counseled to bring a notebook to take notes.

Walker's Notes:

Eli's Notes:

I think it's very telling of each of their personalities on how they took notes. :D

The boys came home and shared so much with us. They were so thankful they got to be there and to see one of their favorite Apostles. We talked with them for about an hour non-stop as they told story after story that was shared!

This is something they will always remember! What a blessing!!!!

Blog In Real Life!

>> Saturday, January 2, 2016

I love blogging. It's so much easier than scrapbooking and it's a great way to keep a family journal! I can't tell you how many times we've  talked about something that happened and we couldn't quite remember some detail about a trip, or a school event, or whatever it may be and I say..."Let me check the Blog!" LOL!!! It's a life saver for "Mommy Brain"! :P

Jared has been helping me by taking the Blog and putting it into book form so that we can read it and and have it for our family to keep. I don't know that Blogger will ever go away, but I find comfort in having a hard copy in my hands to reminisce over! :)

My Christmas present finally arrived today and I love it! I started blogging in 2009. This is the 3rd one he's made for me and I love it! Just look at how little the kids were!

It's funny he chose that photo to be the cover photo. That was one of the saddest Thanksgivings we've ever had. I had just had surgery and my parents were having my sister and brother over. We were supposed to go too but Robin was sick and I did not want the flu while recovering so we went to Black Angus for Thanksgiving dinner! It was nice to not have to do any clean up...but it just didn't feel like the holidays to me. :P

Happy New Year & The 3rd Annual Polar Bear Club!

>> Friday, January 1, 2016

Happy New Years! The Polar Bear Club looks forward to this day all year long. This year was their 3rd annual meeting. Numbers have declined this year. Only the bravest of the brave were in attendance!!!

They are one tough crew!! :P

Alayna was up 1st!!!!

She tried to swim out as fast as she could! LOL! She said, "It's soooo cold! It burns!!!!!" Hahaha!!!

Jared was up next!! :D

The faces he makes crack me up!!! It looks PAINFUL!! :P

Their faces!!!! Hahahaha!!! They are so cute!!!

The water was a little warmer this year. It was a whopping 47 degrees! BRRRRRR!!!!!!

All that action worked up our appetites and we went out to Red Robin for lunch! We had a lot of root beer floats and gingerbread milkshakes! Yummm!!!

Happy New Year!! Hope it's a great one for you and your families!
