Utah Trip 2013-Day 1

>> Wednesday, July 31, 2013

So Jared and I were talking at the beginning of the summer and realized that we haven't been up to see his dad since I was pregnant with Alayna. That was 7 years ago! We had gone up for his Grandma Kitch's funeral.

We decided that needed to be fixed and that we really needed to take the kids up to Utah to see their family up there.

We left when the sun was still asleep on Tuesday and made a few stops along the way.

We passed through the Joshua Tree Forest along US 93. Did you know according to legend, Mormon pioneers considered the limbs of the Joshua trees to resemble the upstretched arms of the Prophet Joshua leading them to the promised land. Cool huh? :)

The drive to Utah is long and earlier this summer I had had issues with the a/c in the van and as we were driving the van started getting hotter and hotter. We were pretty nervous we were going to have to stop in Vegas to get it repaired. We called my dad (if you didn't know he was a mechanic for 25 years) to get some advice and he told us a few things to try and what do you know...it worked! We still need to take it in to get it looked at but it was really great that we were able to push through the trip without having to get it fixed by some random shop that would probably gouge us cuz we were tourists with out a lot of options. Yay dad! :P

We decided to break up the trip a bit with a few sightseeing stops.

The last time the boys were in Nevada was for my brother Boog's wedding. We stopped at the Hoover Dam back in 2005 but they don't remember it. Alayna has never been so we thought it was a good thing to do. :)

The bridge you see is new. It cuts about 30 min. off your drive. It pretty cool!

It really is a phenomenal structure. Water is HEAVY the amount of pressure that presses on that dam must be outrageous!

The view as you approach the Strip.

We stopped for lunch in Vegas and then headed over to the M&M World Store.

The store was totally packed with people. You could barely move around in there and it was in the afternoon of a weekday! The kids got a souvenir and then it was time to get back on the road. We were only about 1/2 way there...

We drove and drove and drove some more..... Then we hit St. George and saw the temple. Not a great pic but hey.. :)

Then we saw the Payson Utah Temple. It's still under construction.

We aren't used to seeing so many temples. It seemed every where we drove there was another one! It really shows how much the church is growing and I loved that the kids got to see God's work rolling forth! :)

We finally arrived at Katie & Ben Carr's (Jared's cousins) around 8 p.m. making it about a 14 hr drive! Yikes! They live in South Jordan and they just finished their basement and were kind enough to let us take over their home for a few days!

Julie Came to Visit

>> Sunday, July 21, 2013

Jared's sister Julie lives in Washington and she came down for the weekend for a visit. This was a perfect time for Jared to break in his Father's Day present so we had everyone over for dinner and he smoked some ribs! :)

Let me tell you they were the BEST ribs I've ever had! My mouth is watering just looking at those suckers!

That smile on his face is well earned. He should be proud of himself for sure! Great job babe!

Julie also introduced us to her new boyfriend Tom. He lives here in AZ. Maybe with any luck we might be seeing more of her then! ;P

We pretty much just ate and ate until we couldn't fit any more! We had a great time visiting and playing games it was a nice evening.

Here are 4 of the 5 Kitch Kids. :)

Alayna made up for lost time with her Aunt Julie and they took Sammy for a walk around the neighborhood together. They found some tadpoles that they brought home and it poured rain on them. Alayna really didn't want her to leave! I mean who wouldn't? Doesn't that sound like an awesome afternoon? LOL!

It was great seeing her and having the family get together. We hope she can make another trip down in October too! Maybe we can get Jared to smoke some pork next time! :D

Summer = Swimming and that's pretty much all we've done this summer!

All the kids were in lessons again this year for at least one session or more. Walker did one week for review on all his strokes before he went on his Scout River Trip. Eli did a few sessions to get his endurance up and to learn all the strokes better, and little Miss Alayna went for every session to get her swimming like a fish...I mean Mermaid! (She's obsessed with mermaids..lol!)

Last year Alayna was still having a bit of a hard time in lessons but this year something just "clicked" and she's doing awesome! She finally using those big arms and she went up 3 levels this summer! :D

I was a lame mom and I forgot to take a pic of the boys when they had their lessons so I made them pose with Alayna on her last day. :P Can you tell they were so happy with that idea??? hahaha!

She likes to pose! LOL!

Look at those beautiful big arms!!! Yay!

This is pretty much what the boys were up to while we were there....LOL!

Alayna doesn't really have a lot of fears. In a lot of ways that's totally awesome. I remember being a kid and taking lessons and when they asked me to jump off the diving board I ran for the hills! I was terrified! Not my little dare devil though...she was more than happy to jump off that thing into the deep water!

She's practically a pro now! She even tried some dives and cannon balls! She cracks me up! :) I'm so proud of her. She's come a long way this year! Great job sweetie!

Sub Zero

>> Wednesday, July 17, 2013

You might be sensing a theme about our summer's here in AZ. They are HOT!

For Eli's cub scout meeting this week they went to Sub Zero and learned all about liquid nitrogen for their science pin. Of course they also got to try their favorite flavor of ice cream flash frozen right before their little eyes! :)

All the boys certainly left talking about it all the way home!

Sizzlin' Summer!

>> Thursday, July 11, 2013

I'm not sure why but this summer has seemed much hotter than normal around here! Sitting out in the inferno while watching the kids do their swimming lessons makes it pretty tough on this Mama. Thankfully it was 7-11's Birthday today and they had free Slurpee Day so we too FULL advantage of their kindness! :)

It sure was nice to have a nice cold Pina Colada Slurpee to chill us off for a bit! YUM!

Happy 13th Birthday Walker!!

>> Wednesday, July 3, 2013

As I mentioned a couple of days ago a certain member of the family had a birthday. Not just any ordinary birthday....this one marked an important turning point. He became....a "teenager"!!!!

I asked him if he felt any different? He said not really. I said you don't feel all dark and moody now that you are a teen? He just laughed at me and said no. Hehehe!

I will say though we measured him on our fancy measuring stick in the hallway and in the past year he's grown 5"!! He really hit a spurt and he's now 5' 2.5"!! Most of which I think took place about a week ago. He walked into my room the other morning and I seemed to have to look quite a bit higher than I used to. :P

For his birthday he wanted a bucket of Chex Mix. He LOVES the stuff. I was going to make him some but he just wanted the bags from the store. Who am I to argue?? :P I think wanting junk food is a clear sign of teenager-hood. :)

He invited a couple of friends over and we went to see "Despicable Me 2". It was a really cute movie. Those minions are a crack up.

We went back to the house for pizza and the traditional Oreo ice cream cake.

He got some pretty cool gifts and the guys played games well into the night. He reports that he felt very spoiled this year! :)

Happy 13th Birthday Walker!!!!!
