I Love To See The Temple!

>> Monday, July 30, 2012

For Family Home Evening, we decided to go check out the progress on the construction of the new Gilbert Temple.

Sometimes being so close to something you take it for granted. This Temple is only 6 miles from our home. The ground breaking ceremony was held on November 13, 2010, and today was the first time we have been out there. But let's look at the bright side...we went and it was AMAZING!

This Temple is a design Temple. Meaning they don't have to stick 100% to the original design. They still have to get permission to change things but it's much easier to do so if needed. Where you see wood now will be beautiful glass windows and the landscaping and water features are promised to be gorgeous!

The Gilbert Temple will be different than the Mesa Temple in that it won't have a cafeteria or a laundry. So if you are hungry you better eat before you go, and don't forget your Temple Clothes or you will have to run back home! There will also not be a visitor's center. This part makes me the most sad. I really feel anytime you can allow the public access to information about the Temple is the way to go. But who am I to argue with the Prophet! LOL!

The kids were super excited to see the Temple! It sits at the crossroads of Greenfield Rd. and Pecos Rd. Most of the Temples sit back away from traffic but this Temples is smack dab right on the corner. As you approach it it almost doesn't look real. It's an enormous, fairy tale , picture book structure, sitting as if it were a convenience store at the edge of the road. It is quite a sight to behold!!! We were told that was sort of the point however, to be visible to every one who passes by, that they may be curious and want to find out more about this beautiful building.

Right now they do have a portable building at the site, visitors can come to and learn more about the Temple. Everything from the design features to the square footage. It is definitely worth the time to head in for a visit. The kids learned so much and it was their first real experience as well as ours learning what goes into the construction of one of Heavenly Father's Holy Houses.

On our way out, the guide told us that as one of the walls was being shipped from Texas it broke. So they had gotten the idea to break it up into smaller pieces to hand out to anyone who wanted to take a piece home. I think this was one of them most poignant moments of our visit.  Coming to look at the construction and to sit and listen about it all is one thing...but to actually be able to take home a piece of the Temple is just unbelievable!

We each took turns choosing our prized piece and then the kids began to chatter on about where they were going to put them in their rooms and how they wanted to display them. They each wanted to make sure to put it in a place they could see it each day as a reminder to them that they want to go inside the Temple one day.

My heart absolutely melted.....

I know these pieces don't look like much, but when you see the Temple in person you can see the quartz (taken all the way from Georgia) sparkle and shine in the sunlight. And to us..they are the most beautiful rocks we've ever seen!!!! :D

We can't wait until the Temple is complete!

Good-Bye!

>> Saturday, July 21, 2012

Alayna's best friend Lola left with her family today to move to Texas. This past week has been very hard on her. These two girls have been friends since they could barely walk and talk!

It was difficult to say good-bye today. There were lots of tears and hugs. As a mom I wished I could protect  her heart, but there really isn't anything I could do. But just pick her up and squeeze her and wipe her eyes and tell her that in time she won't be so sad.

Game On!

>> Saturday, July 14, 2012

Last summer Walker invited some friends over to play D & D (Dungeons & Dragons) and he played the role of the D.M. (Dungeon Master). It was a bit of a challenge trying to wrangle everyone and stay on task, but it proved to be a learning experience for him.

This summer the Dad's jumped on board. Milt (one of Jared's BFF's from High School and a fellow gamer) mentioned his kids wanted to get a group together to game about once a month. My boys were totally ready to oblige and invited a couple of friends of their own to round out the group.

Here are a few pictures from the 4 hour...yes you heard me right...4 hour gaming session!!!

It's hard to tell who had more fun, the kids or the BIG kids..but it was a success. :) They plan to meet again next month after school starts and everyone is back to their routines.

I just love to watch these Dads share their love of the game with their kids. It was fun to see them teach them and spend quality time together. They both are really great Dads! :)

Good-bye Primary...Hello Priesthood!

>> Sunday, July 8, 2012

It feels like all I do is Blog about Walker lately but I guess he's just had a lot of things happening lately. :)

Today Walker received the Priesthood and was ordained a Deacon!

Ordained by Jared Edward Kitch (father)
& Bishop Geoffrey R. Wright

My Grandmother was a member but inactive most of her life even though she came from a strong pioneer heritage. My mom's story is pretty much the same and my father has never joined the church. When I was 11 years old I was baptized and I guess you could say I have broken the cycle of inactivity. I never had the blessings of the Priesthood in my home until Jared and I were married. Since then, I've received blessings from him for various things; illnesses, comfort, direction, etc. Some of those blessings have been extremely powerful and I have felt the power of God through his hands.

Now, all of these years later my 1st son, Walker, has come of age and has been found worthy to graduate Primary, enter into the Young Men's Program, and receive the Priesthood. Words cannot express how amazed and blessed I feel to see him grow into this incredible young man. We now have two Priesthood holders in our home and even in writing this my eyes are filling up with tears. It's truly wonderful!!!!

What a special day for both of my guys! :)

It was an incredible experience to be in the room as Jared ordained Walker. As a mother my heart truly lept for joy! We are all very proud of you son! :D

Little Boy to Young Man....

>> Sunday, July 1, 2012

We moved into this house 11 years ago. Walker was 1 year old and his room was the first thing we painted.

For his birthday present from Mom and Dad he got a total room make over! He's not a little boy anymore.

The BEFORE....Cute red baby airplanes, mismatched furniture, not enough storage.

He even had the love seat from the 1st set of couches Jared and I bought together when we first were married...15 years ago! LOL!

The AFTER...We painted the room 2 shades of blue. A dark blue on the wall facing you as you walk in and a light blue on the other 2 walls. Matching furniture, plenty of storage, and a desk for all that homework heading his way in Jr. High next year!

I swear Sammy shows up in every picture...he's sneaky that dog! LOL!

Grandma & Grandpa Morrison got him the awesome bean bag chair for his birthday. Blue..to match the new cool digs! :D

He's so happy about the changes. He hangs out in his room ALL the time now. He told us he feels grown up with the transformation. It was worth all the hard work! :)

Happy Birthday Son!

Walker's 12th Birthday Party!

It happened...we officially have a Pre-teen in our house!! I almost can't wrap my brain around it. I mean..I'm only 25..how can Walker possibly be 12!?! LOL!!

To ring in the new milestone Walker invited 2 of his close buddies for a small bday hang out, be cool, and chillax party! :P

Nelson got him cash...always a winner...as you can see by Walker's expression!! LOL!

Chase made his gift a little bit of a challenge.....

Several wrappings and layers later....

A few more wrappings and layers....

Ah ha!! He got to the goods! :P

Ta da! Magic Cards are the hottest and raddest thing going on in our house this summer.

Walker loves pie...he requested strawberry rhubarb and blueberry (blueberry is his standard request). It was a low key simple party but he had a GREAT time! They pigged out on tons and I mean TONS of pizza, soda, pie, ice cream, fresh homemade pretzels compliments of Jared, and popcorn. They played some games and watched a movie. It was a great party!!! :D

The Greatest Show on Earth!!!

Yesterday we took the kids to the Circus! We haven't been for about 6-7 years. When I heard it was coming to town I bought tickets right away! :)

It was in downtown Phoenix at the U.S. Airways Center. The kids were really excited to go! The show that we went to see was "Dragons".

We of course had to fill up on cotton candy and snow cones and enjoyed the show! Through out the show they had dragon themes and the main character had to prove himself to the dragon before he would show himself.

The Fam!

Elephants!

Trick horse riders. They pulled off some crazy stuff!

That is a motorcycle on a tight rope with two girls on trapezes hanging below!

Jared and I both agreed that this was the most insane performance! The cats seemed to not be in any type of mood to do what they were being told to do. They were swatting at the man, growling at him, and lunging at him to the point he was forced to fall back into the net several times to get away from them!! He then tries to calmly say..."Don't worry folks, it's all apart of the show!".....Uhh...buddy...they were gonna eat you for LUNCH!!!

The hair spinning girls! All I can say is ....OUCH!

Having a great time!

In the grand finale the Dragon came out because the main character of the show showed strength, wisdom, courage and heart. It was a fun afternoon with family!! :)
