Match-Set

Today was the first day of practice for Eli and Walker.....

They both decided they wanted to play tennis! :)

It was a very HOT and SWEATY day for playing outside. Can you tell?? :P

I'm proud of them both for wanting to try something new. I think it's fun that they get to play together. Because of their age difference they usually end up in different brackets for teams. I can't wait to see what they learn! :D

The Ants Go Marching One By One, Hurrah, Hurrah!

>> Sunday, August 29, 2010

Wednesday night we went to Cub Scouts. While we were there Walker unknowingly stood in a giant anthill and was biten alive! He came and told me what had happened but I didn't realize the severity until the next day when his ankle swelled up to twice it's usual size. However, it wasn't until Friday that it started getting these water blisters and his foot was changing colors that I decided to take him to Urgent Care.

The doctor diagnosed him with having an allergic reaction and infection. They put him on Sulfameth/Trimethoprim which is an antibiotic, and Prednisone which is a corticosteroid to control the inflammation and allergy. He also has him taking Benadryl to help with the itching and Ibuprofen for pain as well as icing it when needed.

The pictures below were taken yesterday, 4 days after the incident, and much of the swelling and blistering has already begun to go away.

He's been a trooper through the whole thing. It's hard to believe ant bites could cause so much trouble!

Daddy Daughter Dance...

>> Saturday, August 28, 2010

Alayna and Daddy went to their 1st Daddy Daughter Dance last Friday night!

It was THE CUTEST thing EVER! :)

Alayna and I went shopping to find a dress for the event and in the dressing room I had a real 'teenage moment' with her. I wanted one dress and she wanted another. It ended with my little darling princess rolling around on the dressing room floor hugging the dress she wanted moaning that she wanted this one! LOL!!! Some battles aren't' worth fighting....she got her dress! :D

Daddy was a true gentleman and even bought her a beautiful yellow rose corsage! What a wonderful date! :)

When Jared showed her the box her reaction was priceless!! She was so surprised and excited! Her eyes were as big as saucers and she gasped in delight! It was perfect!

If you don't know...Alayna LOVES flowers! :)

I love her expression here...hahaha!

Sweet kisses...

Private conversation...

Love!!

At the party they also had a photo booth. Daddy, Alayna and her BFF Lola Cluff and her Daddy took some fun pictures together!

Note: Alayna had already picked out her dress before the Priesthood announced it was going to be a "Neverland" themed party. So Jared cleverly thought up the idea that they would go as Mr. and Mrs. Darling! :D

They had such a wonderful time! They ate, played games, danced...what more could a girl ask for!?! :D

Hello School Year!

>> Wednesday, August 11, 2010

We made it!!!! We lived through another Summer mostly unscathed! :P

We had a wonderful break, but it's definitely time to head back to school. The kids were starting to get antsy the last couple of weeks which makes for a frazzled Mom.

We had Back to School Night last night and we met the boys' teachers, got the supply lists, and met the other kids in their classes. It's always an exciting night. You can feel the energy all around as the kids buzz around all giddy with what the new year will bring! :)

Walker is in 5th grade this year. I can't believe it!! I've noticed since his 10th birthday this summer that he's turning into a young man. He loves his brother, sister, and little cousins...but it seems that more and more he wants to hang out with the grown-ups and listen in on our conversations. :)

He's going to be in Jr. High in just two short years...what am I going to do?? LOL!

He's still rockin that mohawk..Mom is trying to be 'cool' with it. :P

His teacher this year is Mrs. Carnes, and his ALP teacher is the same from last year, Mrs. Caperton. We love her! We'll have to see how Mrs. Carnes works out though..:P

Walker's best friend Jeremiah is also in his class...again!! They have been very lucky to have had the same teacher since Kindergarten except for one year!!

Eli is in 2nd grade this year! My little man hit a growth spurt this summer! He's wearing practically the same size as his big brother, and they are almost 3 years apart! :)

Don't you just love that sweet smiling face!?! I do! :D

Eli loves school! He's becoming quite the mathematician and he LOVES to be busy. Since he was little I've had a hard time keeping this kid occupied. He's always on the go! :)

His teacher this year is Mrs. Simmons. She seemed very sweet and young. I think that is a great combo. for 2nd grade! :P Eli was also lucky to get two of his friends in his class...Peter and Jeremy! It makes the new year not seem quite so scary knowing you have a buddy in there going through it with you. :)

Jared gave them each a Father's Blessing last night as well as Alayna since she'll be starting Joy School next month..more on that later. That always brings comfort to me and I know the boys feel better afterwards too. It's a huge comfort to have a Priesthood holder in our home.

The boys did have a bit of The Night Before the New School Year Starts jitters last night. Jared and I were in there room giving pep talks and helping them work out their concerns for a while.

When I was growing up I hated that night. I would stay awake worrying about the unknown for hours. Of course it always was perfectly fine, and at the end of the first day all was well again. I'm just glad Jared and I can be there for the boys as they go through these what seem to be scary times for them. :)

I can't wait for them to get home so I can hear all about their first day!!

Good Bye Summer!

>> Sunday, August 8, 2010

On Saturday we decided to celebrate as a family and say "Good Bye Summer"! :)

We had breakfast at a place we saw on the Food Network Channel on a show called Diners, Drive-In's and Dives hosted by Guy Ferretti. He came to Arizona and ate a place called Matt's Big Breakfast. We thought it would be fun to give them a try!

Matt's is on on 1st and McKinley in Phoenix. Luckily it was a bit overcast because this place was tiny and the wait was about 30 min.

Photo-ops while passing the time. :)

The food was pretty good. The waffles were great as was the local strawberry preserves! Yum! The portion sizes were huge too.

After breakfast we had to roll ourselves out the door, and we took the kids over to AZ Mills Mall to the new exhibit called Sea Life. They each had earned a free admission for reading books all summer through the Library Reading Program.

It was a pretty neat exhibit. We saw all sorts of fish, sharks, seahorses and starfish! It was like a very small scale Sea World! :P

They give the kids little cards and as they go through they find Quiz Trails and scratch off the answers to each. If they get them all correct they get to collect a special sticker proclaiming they are a Sea Life Expert! :P

In some of the tanks they had bubbles you could poke your head through to get up close and personal with the sea creatures. The kids LOVED them!

Did you know Jelly Fish are 90% water!?! Sooo cool! :P

Walker acting like he's 'in' the tank! That boy cracks me up! :P

At the end of the exhibit they had a play area with a play center and tables where you could color and draw the animals you just saw.

It was a fun way to say Good Bye to Summer as a family! :D

The Adventure Continues...

Tuesday, July 27th

Our last day.....

We hadn't made our way to upper New York area so that's what we did for our last day. It took us up and around the Upper West Side, Morningside Heights, Harlem, East Harlem, Upper East Side and Midtown East. We saw where John Lennon was shot in Strawberry Fields..sorry no picture. :( We were on a very crowded bus and we had to sit at the bottom where it was impossible to get a clear shot. I was very sad....

Our next stop was the Museum of Natural History.

Under construction...The Museum is very pretty but you can't tell with the tarps covering it.

This is one BIG dinosaur!

They had room after room of dinosaurs. The kids would have LOVED to see this place. Not to mention it was the biggest museum we'd ever been to. It would easily take an entire day to see all the exhibits.

Have I mentioned that I love our flag?

This flag was from The Gobi Desert Expedition from 1920.

This was a view of Central Park and Manhattan from one of the Museum's sitting areas. Gorgeous!

We didn't have very much time to see everything we wanted to on the last day. So we had to move quickly. We probably only saw 1/4 of the Museum before we had to go.

Waiting at the bus stop for the tour bus...killing some time. :)

We stayed on the tour bus to take in as many sights as we could. I absolutely fell in love with this church. It was massive, ornate, and just made my jaw drop!

Our tour guide on this last trip had tons of stories to tell..personal stories about family and friends...about 9/11. Some were very graphic and I'll spare you the details. However, they were very moving and gripping.

He took this picture of us...cheese! :)

We got to see Harlem and the Appollo Theatre.

The Guggenheim. I wish we would have had more time to see it.

This is the apartment building Jackie O'Nassis lived and died.

This ornate window shows which apartment was hers.

We got off the bus at Central Park on the upper east side. We got directions (so we thought) from the tour guide so we could have lunch at Serendipity...I'd heard wonderful things about that restaurant and wanted to try their famous Frozen Hot Chocolate.

We walked about 10 blocks out of the way to walk 10 blocks back to pretty much where we started before we found it.
Note to self: Ask more than one person for directions.
We got there and the wait was an hour and we had wasted so much time finding the place we didn't have enough time. We ended up eating at a restaurant on the corner. It was actually really good. They had a yummy creme' brule' and realized it was right across the street from Dylan's Candy Bar that's we've seen on Food Network several times! :)

We had to hurry back to the hotel and made it just in time for our late check out at 4:30. We ran up to our room threw everything in our suitcases and met our 'complimentary' Mercedes Town Car out front! :) It was worth being stuck in the elevator for an hour to not have to worry about how we were going to get back to the airport...and doing it 'style' was even better!!! :D

It was a very nice ride. :P

Our adventure of course didn't stop there. We went to check in for our flight and the computer popped up and said our flight has been delayed 3 HOURS!!! UGH!

Things that went through our minds:
1) Next time, check your flight before you leave the hotel.
2) 3 hours....we totally would have had time to eat at Serendipity...and do a few more things we wanted to do.
3)What in the world are we going to do for 3 hrs. at the airport?? Sit and wait..that all you can do.
4) Didn't we say we were never going to fly a red-eye again????

Thankfully Jared is a computer savvy guy and he had some movies and TV shows on his computer and Zen for us to watch to help pass the time. In a way it was nice to just sit and visit without rushing off to our next destination.
New York was an amazing way to spend our anniversary. We hadn't ever done anything like this before. Making time for each other is so important. I feel like we are newly weds again! Our goal is to not wait another 13 years! :D
