Where is my Zip?

>> Saturday, January 23, 2010

As each year passes I seem to be noticing a pattern. A pattern I REALLY don't like and I'm not 100% sure what to do about it.... From about Thanksgiving til Valentine's Day I hit a funk. All ambition and drive goes out the window. Productivity hits a low, diets totally busted, and just an overall feeling of 'Blah'.

I thought this year I was going to master this demon. I did better than I did last year. But it still got the better of me...just a little bit later than usual. Is it the change in weather? The holidays? Stress? I don't know...

What I 'do' know, is I need my Zip back! If you find it...please tell it to come home ASAP...we need to have a chat!!

Tiaras & Treasures

What more can a girl ask for?

Getting to spend everyday dressing up and playing with beautiful jewelry, sparkling trinkets, and her imagination!!

All 3 of my children did this at this age. They line up all of their 'treasures' in a row. Walker did it with army men and cars. Eli did it with Thomas trains. And Alayna does it with her dress up clothes and crayons. :) LOL!

Maybe it says something about them? Or their parents? Not sure..but it's quirky..and I love it!

So Mysterious

>> Tuesday, January 19, 2010

In 2007 we took trip to San Diego. It wasn't really planned..you see we woke up one morning and there was a 'clue' left for the boys. With each clue was also a puzzle piece that gave us even more information to where we need to go. We decided we better follow the trail to see what we would find. :)

The first clue was sitting by the boys' alarm clock that had mysteriously been set by someone, and was beeping...

A man at the airport handed this one to us.

After we got our luggage another person handed us this clue.

This one was given to us by the guy that rented us the car

After we spent the afternoon playing at Seaport Village, and getting some lunch, we got in the car and found this in the glove box. :)

This clue was waiting outside our hotel door.

The attendant at the parking booth gave us our final clue.

This is the finished puzzle. They really didn't figure it out until they got the very last piece and clue. :P

We had such an adventure and created a memory none of us will ever forget!

The Lord's Way

>> Wednesday, January 13, 2010

I was reading the January Ensign today and came across an article written by President Boyd K. Packer.
(President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles)

He talks about how to solve emotional problems in the Lord's own way. At the very end of the article he says,

"It was meant to be that life would be a challenge. To suffer some anxiety, some depression, some disappointment, even some failure is normal.

"Teach our members that if they have a good, miserable day once in a while, or several in a row, to stand steady and face them. Things will straighten out.

There is great purpose in our struggle in life."

I needed that reminder today. :)

Homesick... :P

I came across this photo while reading one of my Disney blog sites....There are times I see a photo and "WISH" I was the one behind the camera taking the shot.

This is one of them!!!

There is sooo much to love about this photograph.

However, it makes me feel "homesick"...LOL. Can you tell that I'm going to have a hard time with my New Year's Resolution??

We are sooo EXCITED!!!

When Walker was 16 months old he fell and knocked his front tooth out. Here is a pic of him the next month after it had happened...

Time went by and the dentists kept reassuring us his grown up tooth was indeed there and would come down. We thought it would come in before or at least about the same time he started losing his baby teeth but alas...it held out.

He turned 5, still no sign. He turned 6,7,8,9...

And this weekend it happened!!! Behold.....the "tooth"! WooHoooo!!!!

Walker is now 9 1/2 years old. :)

It will take some getting use to seeing a tooth where there has been a gap for so long. He's really excited to be able to eat apples again!!! LOL!

Who, Me?

>> Friday, January 8, 2010

As most of you know I was called into the R.S. Presidency last June. It has been a wonderful experience! I love going out into the women's homes and visiting them, and getting to know them more personally.

I'd been in Primary for so long I think I'd forgotten how to have women friends, and what a huge blessing they are to me. I've been able to meet women from all different backgrounds, upbringings, states, countries, converts, newly weds, first time mothers..you name it!

They say when you are called in the church you always gain more than what you give. I know this to be TRUE! I'm a more complete person than I was just a few months ago because of the growth I've achieved by being able to serve. I hope that the women of my ward know ...REALLY know..how much I love them, how much I appreciate them, and how much they have changed "me".

There is "one" part of my calling that I do struggle with however. It's been a huge source of anxiety, stress, and feeling of inadequacy...Teaching...

There is an article in the January Ensign that really was the inspiration for me writing this entry to day. The article is called, " Who, Me? Teach?" The title just lept off the page into my heart! I will quote a from it:

"And now we'll turn the time over to (..fill in our name..) for our lesson. If you were to hear these words in church next Sunday, would you feel fearful or confident?

Sooner or later every member of the Church becomes a teacher. It might happen in Primary, in Relief Society or a priesthood quorum, in visiting or home teaching, or in family home evening. For many people who are new in the Church, the role of teacher may not be familiar. Even those who have taught many times may wonder how they can be more confident and effective in touching lives for good."

When you are in the Presidency you are asked to teach the lesson on the 1st day of the month. You rotate each month with the other members of the Presidency. So I basically teach every 3 months. It's your choice to teach whatever you'd like. There is no manual, no Ensign article, no nothing given to you...It's all complete "inspiration". This has been difficult. Especially because as the article mentioned, I do "wonder how I can be more confident and effective in touching lives for good."

The article goes on to give ideas that can help in teaching.

1. Pray about each phase of your lesson preparation for guidance. Rely on the Lord's promise to all teachers: "The Spirit shall be given unto you by the prayer of faith" (D&C 42:14).

2. Read the lesson and prayerfully choose 1 or 2 main principles you feel are best for your class.

3. Prayerfully study the scriptures related to your lesson and draw examples and principles from them.

4. Take comfort in the fact that you do not need to know everything about the lesson to be an effective teacher.

5. As a teacher, you are called to learn as well. Gospel teaching "calls for your diligent efforts to increase your understanding and improve your skills, knowing that the Lord will magnify you as you teach in the way He has commanded."

I LOVED #4 and #5!

I feel like my life is so crazy with my family and activities that it feels almost impossible to be "inspired". Not only that, I feel very inadequate. I've had VERY little experience with R.S. in my life. We have women in our ward that are Spiritual Giants. We have women who are so well read and well spoken. They have true natural talent at speaking and teaching and inspiring others.

I've spoken to some of my friends about these feelings I've had over the past months. Sometimes we are called to positions in the church not necessarily for others..but for our "own" growth. Not to say lives won't be touched at all by our serving, but that the greater purpose is that we are stretched and molded and changed in the ways Heavenly Father wants us to be. This I feel is what this calling is in my life.

I'm really a pretty shy person initially. I struggle with stepping out side of my comfort zone to approach others I barely know and strike up conversations like we've been bff's for years. But I've been "stretched" to do so. It's been extremely difficult to stand up in front of my peers and speak to them on spiritual matters that I feel I'm not the most experienced person to be doing so. Who am I to stand before you and lead??? But I have been "stretched" to do so.

I know there are some who turn down callings because they feel that they are too busy, the calling they feel is beyond their abilities, or they just don't feel like it is a good fit. Let me tell you from my own experience, all 3 of those thoughts ran through my mind when I was in the Bishop's office and still today. The difference is....I did accept (apprehensively..but I did. :P )I've felt the Lord's hand in my life in ways I never would have if I would have said no. I've had several experiences where it was confirmed to me certain blessings have come "because" of accepting this calling. Wherever I fall short, Heavenly Father fills in the gap. It has been an emotional and challenging time in my life, but I wouldn't have wanted it any other way.

I'm soo thankful for my calling. I still have feelings of doubt and fear and frustration. But those are all tools that Satan uses to make us feel as he does. They are also because I'm human. I'm not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. I just have to remind myself that I have a purpose, and God will "make weak things become strong." I will have faith! :)

When I think of hair. I think of "Hair"...you know the musical. :P

Hair! (hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair)
Flow it, show it;
Long as God can grow it, My Hair!
... LOL!!! :P

Today was a BIG day for Laney Bugs. She got her 1st haircut!! That's right..she's NEVER had a haircut.

Anxiously waiting with Daddy for her turn. :)

Look at that face..can you see it behind the fro?? LOL!

I didn't really want to cut it..but it was getting out of control!

She sat still the whole time and did a GREAT job!

(fyi-if your child wants a sucker like mine did, cuz she's seen her big brothers get them. DON'T go to Great Clips. They don't give them anymore. :( She was disappointed..I made it up to her though.)

The big moment!! (snip!)

Now you can see that cute little face again! :)

Jesus wants Alayna for a Sunbeam!!! :)

Today was her 1st day of class. She was pretty nervous at the beginning. I had to sit with her through out Sharing Time. However, by the time they separated to their classes she walked in on her own and only had a slight pouty face. :P

She did GREAT! We are so proud of her! :D
